Meaningful March

When you hear the word relax, what is/are the first thing(s) that comes to mind?

Is it a place? A situation? A thing? A person? Something else?

Well, keep your answer to yourself for now.

March is supposed to be the month I always look forward to (for a specific/obvious/personal reason). I know it's only the third month of 2017, but I already feel like 70 percent of my energy is sapped. My weekdays are mainly used for self-recharging in order to participate in the activities on weekends. So when Monday arrives, my body is likely glued to bed all day long.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the eventful weeks I've had so far, but I miss having enough leisure to find repose. These-days, I find my mind often flies to some idyllic place — heck, I even had lucid dreams about it. Some nights it's somewhere in Melbourne, some nights it's in Seattle. I don't always translate that as wanderlust because maybe...I'm just exhausted. Maybe I need to relax.

Back to our first topic... What came to mind when I heard the word 'relax'? Honestly, it's Gemütlichkeit (probably the only German word that I would remember forever. LOL!)

an old doodle I made last year

A website describes a possible meaning of Gemütlichkeit quite gracefully:
"The sense of wishing to be known only for what one really is is like putting on an old, easy, comfortable garment. You are no longer afraid of anybody or anything. You say to yourself, 'Here I am --- just so ugly, dull, poor, beautiful, rich, interesting, amusing, ridiculous -- take me or leave me.' And how absolutely beautiful it is to be doing only what lies within your own capabilities and is part of your own nature. It is like a great burden rolled off a man's back when he comes to want to appear nothing that he is not, to take out of life only what is truly his own."
— David Grayson, journalist and author (1870-1946)

Yep, there it is. Gemütlichkeit. My idea of relaxation.

To make it more pragmatic, my best friend once asked us to share 5 things in our world that can make us happy instantly. I thought carefully and then answered:

  1. Presence of loved ones
  2. Unexpected thoughtful messages
  3. Songs that match mood
  4. Clean, dry and fresh scented room
  5. Sunset skies

So, if I can paint a word picture of it:
it's that time of day where the sun is reluctant to leave the stage so it kinda slowly fades away from the scene, leaving some many-hued strokes in the sky. As you are being captivated by the view, a soft tuneful melody is playing in the background like it's escorting the sun out. A few minutes later, you sigh deeply because you realise how momentary that striking scene is. It's fine, though, because as you breathe in and breathe out, your mind is soothed by an aromatic scent of exotic flower (or freshly baked cinnamon rolls) in the room. Just when you think the day's almost over, your favourite persons suddenly text you, saying they have just arrived in front of your house (bringing your favourite meal and lighthearted movies). They sit next to you, tell you the thoughts that surround their head and ask you some genuine profound questions, which lead to a deep meaningful, free-of-judgment, non-argumentative conversation. It's relaxing and meaningful at the same time :)

Can the rest of March be that relaxing and meaningful? I wish so.
