I dream of leaving the corporate world, working at my own workspace and having my own studio one day. I used to fear working for myself because I didn't possess entrepreneurship skill or management skill. I doubted I could earn fixed income to support myself. In fact, I still do.
What's more, I didn't enjoy uncertainties. Then I realised nothing is secure in this world, especially seeing the current economy. Friends have been talking a lot about what's happening around the globe that affects our welfare. Sometimes I look up to those who are in more "critical" industries such as engineers, economists, medical experts, scientists, technologists, and whoever deals with people's essential needs. They work hard to provide the best options and solutions.
Me? I am not a specialist. My personal mission has always been promoting beauty, not improving people's safety or fortune. Current crisis of the world don't have much impact in my profession. Well, at least, not directly. An artist's job is to entertain people in the midst of crisis, in hopes of making everyone forget about their problem for a while. Isn't that noble? Ha-ha. After all, everyone needs some good entertainment even during adversity, right?
Well, I remember back in 2011, when I did a personal contribution assessment with the Navigators, I wrote down my personal values, personal desires, and personal mission statement. They were based on the results of my MBTI type, my individual preferences, spiritual gifts, and primary roles. It's funny how relevant they are still today.
Here's what I wrote:
Personal Values
My values: Peace & harmony, friendships, creativity, solitude, affiliation
I believe 'happiness is real when shared', so being accepted (in a community), having close personal non-superficial relationships, and freedom from conflict are important to me. I also need to have time alone for productivity and personal pursuits.
Personal Desires
To know Jesus Christ and make Him known (how Navs of me, I know, LOL); to see things through His eyes; to love and become more like Him; to understand grace and express grace; to be sensitive and perceptive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Personal Mission Statement
To promote peace and unity in people's lives through friendship and kindness; to bring beauty and joy into the world by creating images and designing surroundings that reflect God's creativity; to influence, motivate, and guide young believers toward personal growth and commitment.
That being read, I became more convinced that whatever career I have right now or in the future, so long it allows me to work out my mission, I am doing the right job.
Nonetheless, I dream to have a more decent workspace than the one I currently have (see the photo above).
Can't wait to have my own studio!
