"Nothing reinforces the reality that we live in a fallen world more than the experience of exile."
It was one of the most profound sermons by Pastor Richard at the church we went to in Green Lake, Seattle.
"Every one needs a home, a place of safety. When we feel like we are not where we are meant to be, we are actually in exile/displacement. It is often physical but can also be spiritual. In other words, exile means there is a gap between the life we are living and the life we are meant to live."
When I am in exile, I basically just want to go back to the way it was. Be it relationship matter, health issue, or career situation. Often I just want to go 'home'. Yet the purpose and goal of exile is transformation. Exile is for the longing for Christ, not merely for solution. Every other longing will fail us.
This message continues to speak deeply to my heart. I have shared more thoroughly of this sermon on Day 134 and Day 135 posts. Feel free to read them again.
